3 Low-Intensity Outdoor Activities to Celebrate the Warm Weather
Ebenezer | Jul 16, 2024
The weather is getting warmer, which means it's the perfect time to get outside and get moving. Seniors can still get the exercise they need without engaging in exercises that are too strenuous. Here are just a few ways that seniors can get moving as the weather heats up.
Yoga
Yoga is the perfect activity because it can be modified depending on your mobility and comfort level. Plus, it can be done outside. A nice soft grassy spot and a mat is all you need. Simply look up articles about yoga poses for seniors, or videos that walk you through a few exercises. You can do yoga with friends, grandchildren, or caretakers. The more people, the more fun yoga is!
Walking
When it comes down to it, walking is a simple and fun way to get moving. There are tons of sights to see in the warm months of the year. Whether you spend a day going on a walk to look at the flowers near you, or you just want to catch up with a friend on a walk, you can get in valuable exercise by doing something as simple as walking.
Strength Training
You don't have to use weights to start strength training. For example, you could use a can of soup, a full water bottle, or a half gallon of milk as weights. With these makeshift 'weights' you can do a few reps or simply hold them while you walk. This is a low-impact way to get in some strength training, and when you increase your strength, you're on your way to improving your health.
